Stay Tuned

Our trailer project premieres this Friday!

We spent the entire semester making this a treat for the eyes and a feast for the senses...

Anyway.

Christmas holidays are so close you can taste them.

I've bought two books

When you are studying at a place like this, you need to think long and hard and hard and long on what you are going to spend your limited money on.

I spent mine on two books this month. One is Sketching From the Imagination from 3DTotal. I dare say, it's one of the most beautiful books I've gotten my hands on in a long while. It's filled with sketches from 50 different artists, each talking about how to approach drawing and what drawing is to them.

The second is Prime, a collection of art and pretty pictures. Highly recommended too.

I hope to start sketching every day from uh.. Monday. I just hope I can muster it will all that rigging catching up that will be going on, as I will loose some of the day because of an orthodontist appointment.

Anyway,

Draw as often as you can.

Painting!

You gotta do what you gotta do, when you actually have the time for it.
We have a week "off", which for me, means getting a ton of painting done. I'll prod at Zbrush too, but only because it's fun. This is partly because of the following weeks. We're starting up on rigging again, so they are most certainly going to be a couple of terribly long and boring weeks. It's a good thing that I'm a patient man.

Oh yes, there's a paper to be written about our reflection on the current semester. For me, this means I have to write what I feel about a month worth of school since the summer. I wonder if I can figure to write anything I haven't already in the previous reflection papers.

All I think about is steak

It has been a tough couple of weeks being back in school after a double jaw surgery. Thankfully, I now have an ENTIRE week to mess around in Zbrush and paint to my heart's desire.

Oh what fun we are going to have.

All about the habit

Look, I'm updating again! And so soon, too!

Here's todays Roberto's Challenge

I'm busy in the weekend. I need to model one set and one prop for our trailer project. We were supposed to learn Zbrush, but much to my dismay I spent all week in Maya.

Our teacher, David Sanchez, is a 3D modeller who has worked on movies such as John Carter and Star Trek. He tells us he knows people at Disney and WETA. Consider me intrigued.

Can't wait to learn Zbrush.

A Heartfelt Apology

I'm so sorry.

I'm terrible at updating blogs and I thought I would do better when I first made this. I will not relent though, and hope to improve my current mindset.

In these past few weeks I've been locked down because of a jaw surgery, but tomorrow I'm heading back to school for the Zbrush-bonanza. We're going to learn Zbrush for our trailer project and it's something I plan to get really good at.

That being said, so far every time I've picked it up I'm in the habit of procrastinating with 2D instead.

Speaking of which, I've been doing 30 minute paintings this past week for our wonderful years http://robertochallenge.tumblr.com/. It started after we had a teacher and concept artist named Roberto Castro doing an evening of live painting. He said it would be good practice, and that I feel has been true so far. I'm enjoying it a lot.

If I get the chance, I will post x-rays of my skull next. I'm part cyborg now, you know.

Update Pending #2

Before I head back to school again!
(recovering from surgery, which means I should have plenty of time to update my blog, right?)

What about second showreel?

I am texturing. By friday, we will have a fully rendered clip fit for the second semester showreel. Tomorrow I will render some more stuff. Yes.

It's great being back in school. While less time for personal stuff, we've done little but actual drawing, painting and rendering in photoshop since we started. Just the way I like it.

Having survived first a week of storyboarding, followed by the second Design Course with Lawrence Marvit, I can safely say that I enjoy myself greatly, even with the long hours.

This week we're doing still life rendering, focusing on light and how it works.

When not painting, I should best get my semester reflection paper done soon... you know, sometime. Also, I promise, that when I have had the time to fix up certain things on my design assignments, I will be sure to post them here. Maybe one in colour on facebook, for the main purpose of generating likes. People, I find, likes colour.

Meanwhile, here's my first actual still life done in photoshop.

Oh, and by the way, I absolutely hate working on the school computers because of their lack of calibrated monitors. It ruins your stuff when you look at them on a normal one.

Yes, it's an avocado with warts. I purposely made it ugly because it annoyed me greatly. I have the power.
